More Nerdiness: Starcraft II

Well time for another nerd post by yours truely. This time I'll be talking about Blizzard's highly anticipated real time strategy game Starcraft II. It's been about a good nine years since Brood War came out and that was as close as anybody got to a sequel to Starcraft. However as any PC gamer knows an expansion can hardly be considered a true sequel. So we had to wait forever to get a true sucessor. I always wondered if they were ever going to make a Starcraft II, I remember a while back seeing a PC Gamer magazine cover that said something about it, but I think I was in the 5th grade or something. Also the way that Brood War ended it left the story open for more, but then again so did Warcraft III from what I hear. However Warcraft got World of Warcraft which is kind of an unoffical continuation of the series.

Let me say that I am excited about Starcraft II, not only because I played so much with my roomates but because I loved the series in general. Gameplay wise it's going to be big, with a pretty good story mode and the same multiplayer game people are familiar with and bringing it all into 3D. Unit wise the models actually look good in 3D. The Terrans are shaping up into a decent race this time (most think they're only good for beginner players) the Reaper and Viking units are my favorite so far. So with the announcement of the Zerg trailer and section open we're one more step closer to an eventual release date (hopefully one in the next two years, but I doubt it).

From what I hear now that Blizzard has announced all three races, they plan on working on some of the Battle.net options. After that they're going onto a beta and then "when it's done when it's done" will finally become an actual release date. So that's my thoughts maybe something deep next time.
